Dave Shurr – The Thread Connecting Us

Dave Shurr’s ability to create an affinity between the listener and simple, yet meaningful music continues with the creation of “The Thread Connecting Us”. All quotes are from Shurr himself.

Shurr states that messing about with the fretboard created the square-shaped riff that is prominent throughout. It’s smooth and easy to listen to, and the lyrics are almost autobiographical, “All of my friends are deserting the memories we made long ago”. The topics range from sibling relationship, “I guess that was on my mind” and “this neck pain I get when I play too much guitar”.

The song flows consistently; there are no pointless rhymes as it feels as though there is not one interpretation of the track but rather it is the listener’s choice to decide.

The music video has contemporary, vlog style shots alongside black cut scenes, perhaps to give the listener a chance to reach their interpretive views all from a one-day shoot. It matches well to the style of both production and lyrics; easy-going with an aim of capturing “tranquillity”. Nature lovers can enjoy themes ranging from bumblebees to highway traffic too!
