Starting out as a cover artist in local pubs and bars “where his powerful vocals and natural stage presence quickly set him apart from other young performers”, Oliver White, a 15-year old Manchester-based young musician, is now taking the centre stage with his original writing. We can now listen to his brand new debut single ‘Blink of an Eye’ – the fresh sound of Manchester’s youth with the rawness, grittiness and vibrancy inherent to the city’s historical soundscapes. Recorded with Through The Roof Recording Studio, this debut single is available to listen through most major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
Oliver’s previous songs have already been broadcast on radio, he has equally seen the spotlight of live performances around the UK. Actively developing his sense of confidence, Oliver is now catapulting himself as one of Manchester’s youngest musicians, bringing a new perspective into the industry.
Evocatory of the UK’s greatest bands, Oliver’s instrumentals are incredibly dynamic and layered, bringing heavy energy from Oliver Brooks on percussion layered with both acoustic and electric guitar riffs that carry the melody and echo Oliver’s cultural background. Starting out acoustically, the song builds up intensity with the chorus, to then introduce a very subtle but lovely string section post-chorus, keeping the energy flowing constantly throughout the track. Although Oliver’s vocals still have a lot of growing and maturing to do, it is admirable to see him carry the weight of the track’s sound and stay both rugged (in rock’s style) and forthright amongst the instrumental tenacity.
There is something to be said about his maturity that shines through the lyrics too, allowing older generation listeners to step into that frame of mind and see what weighs the youth down. Oliver brings in current socio-political commentary without beating around the bush, weaving that with his own loss of a soul. ‘Blink of an Eye’ stirringly and sensibly takes the opportunity to highlight the burdens that younger generations carry with them when facing the world and their future. Olly’s voice conveys that burden even further, displaying his emotional maturity with clarity.
With a lot of great potential and promising composition, exceptional in his ambition and bravery to be releasing music at such a young age, Oliver is the doorway into a new generation’s colour of sound. You can now listen to ‘Blink of an Eye’ and find out for yourself what this up and coming Mancunian artist, Oliver White, has to offer.
