As the new season approaches, so do new music releases here to warm up the upcoming cold days. FLOCO, a London-based singer, violinist and producer has announced her new upcoming EP with a single – and title track, I’ll be my own mirror.
Collaborating with Martha Skye Murphy and The London Ambient Orchestra, FLOCO composes magical and ambient atmospheres, reflecting her own “personal milestone of intuition, uncanny visions imagined through ambient driven, electronic soundscapes with folk music sat at its heart”.
The single was released on the 28th of August, alongside a music video employing dreamy visuals that serve as a reflection of FLOCO’s introspective and creative nature. The patchwork of self-reflection, sensitivity and intuition invites us into the world of FLOCO, making it a uniquely intimate listening experience. FLOCO’s own choreographed hand as a mirror prompt to look inward as the key to unlocking one’s world of imagination and growth.
FLOCO explains for Click Roll Boom, “I built the EP across different periods of change in my life, a mantra – trying to see myself through the chaos. It’s a dialogue with self that simultaneously celebrates my self-sufficiency and challenges it. There’s a dark side to ‘I’ll be my own mirror’, rooted in isolation.”
As the EP explores layered and melodic vocals, pushing the boundaries of musical experimentation, it’s equally as rich in sounds found in the serene spaces of the world – field recordings of coastlines, churches and canals, taking us on a sonic journey, flying across the wonders of the world’s landscapes. The instrumentals of soft violins are lulling us away into the new reality crafted by the singer, hand-built diapason organs and occasional flugel horns are making us a witness to the expanse of the artist’s musical and creative brilliance. The melodic body of I’ll be my own mirror borrows from every genre, and in the process crafts a refreshing, gentle sound.
Provoking a meditative state, FLOCO reminds us of akin musical projects such as the ethereal Enigma, healing Takashi Kokubo, magical Enya and charming Billie Marten.
With autumn at our doorstep, I find FLOCO’s music a peaceful soundtrack to the changing nature around us – I could easily add this single onto my autumnal playlists to cocoon myself in the blanket of sonic comfort and introspection woven by FLOCO.
The complete EP will be released on November 7th, including five tracks.
