Pomona Park are an up and coming indie based from Manchester. Blending storytelling with a quintessentially indie sound, they are instantly comparable to Arctic Monkeys and Sam Fender – as well as fellow Mancunian bands Blossoms and The Smiths.
The band now continue to rise in the local scene with their latest single “Lifeline,” released 3rd October.
The four Salford lads formed Pomona Park in 2021, with a shared desire to express themselves through music in the aftermath of lockdown. This can be heard in their fiercely energetic sound; from pulsating basslines to jangly guitar riffs, their songs counteract those months spent isolated and uninspired. .
The band already have a string of singles under their belt, including debut “Overdrink,” “Do Not Disturb” and “The Ick.” As well as musicality, they have a knack for turning relatable feelings into narratives through their lyricism, akin to their northern heroes.
Latest single “Lifeline” explores the early stages of frontman Chris’ relationship with his now wife. Its cover art is one of Manchester’s yellow ‘Bee Network’ buses, and the song elsewhere mentions ‘Picadilly in the nighttime.
” This imagery both grounds the song in their hometown, and signals journey through this relationship.
On the track, Chris says: “It explains the anxious excitement of meeting someone properly for the first
time. Then the song explores opening up to someone, and allowing them to see your vulnerabilities.”
There is something innocent and sincere about his retrospective lyrics. It depicts a time when questions still lingered –“Is this something real?” – but this apprehension is hopeful and exciting.
The song itself pairs repeated lyrics with catchy melodies to compliment its storytelling, a technique widely used by Sam Fender. Along with vibrant guitar work and thunderous drums, it is worth a listen for any indie fans.
