Novacrow

What advice would you give to people just starting out in the music industry?

t’s all a roll of the dice, so pursue music because you love doing it, rather than with an overall goal to make it big. Listen to feedback from people who you respect. Get stuff in writing. Be proud of what you do.

What were your musical influences growing up?

I first learnt to play guitar because of Nirvana. Big influences for me waiting to start a band were My Ruin, Joan Jett, Die So Fluid, Otep, Kittie and The Birthday Massacre.

Who did you watch at your first ever gig you attended?

I saw S Club 7 as a kid and then the next show I went to was Cradle of Filth. Bit of a jump in genre there.

“ I immediately wanted to be a performer. If anything, I think S Cradle of 7 should be a thing.”

About Novacrow

Forming late 2013, dark and delicious alternative metal band from Liverpool, England. Novacrow is formed of Kitty Staunton on lead vocals/ guitar, Federico “Freddy” Spera on bass/backing vocals and Jonyx on guitars/backing vocals. Infamous for their extremely high energy sets, Novacrow deliver wild stage shows, filthy riffs and soaring vocals.

Kitty has been involved in music journalism since age 15 and uploading music videos onto YouTube since 2009, as ‘Kitty Synthetica’. She enjoys video games, horror and Stephen King.

Jonyx is in charge of producing the band’s artwork and has designed all of the packaging for the single and EP.

Freddy has recorded, produced and mixed the band’s current releases.

What was the hardest obstacle you had to overcome to get to where you are now in music?

There’s no HR department in music, so you need to look out for yourself. I think a tough thing in general for bands though is the fact that the reality is most of us need to be a musician, a content creator, a website creator, a merch shop and a social media guru too.

What was your best performance?

I think we kicked ass at Bloodstock (especially considering I was MELTING with allergies at the time, I basically waited in the shower until the last minute to try and keep my eyes from swelling up more!)

How do you feel about sampling, do you use sampling?

I think it has its place, but not something we’d really use. We do enjoy a fake horror film ‘clip’ and plenty of electronic elements in our music.

Do you have a moment you could share with the magazine from your previous gigs or recording experiences?

Countless hours of laughing our heads off at something stupid and pointless. Pretty much every time Novacrow get together, there’s at least one joyful moment of absolute idiots finding something brilliantly funny.

What gigs have you got coming up ?

We are supporting Evil Scarecrow at Yardbirds in Grimsby 4th January!

Why do you make music?

I feel happiest when I am lost in a moment of creativity or performing. There is no better feeling.

Talk us through your song writing process.

It depends. It usually starts with a hook- a particular line or melody which sparks something. I like to spam listening to ideas that I’ve recorded whilst walking too.

What advice would you give to your past self?

“BE STRONG, YOU ARE DOING GREAT!”
